Sri Lanka

These photos are from the first two weeks of our trip to Sri Lanka.

We began our journey from Colombo, moving down south all the way to Matara. From there we made a stop to the Uda Walawe national park and continued to Ella. From there we continued to Hatton in which we walked up to Adam’s Peak, the famous pilgrimage destination, to see the sunrise. The hike began at 2am and we reached the top of the 2200 meter mountain just little before sunrise. Despite the exhaustive walk, it was one of the most amazing experiences to see the sunrise above the clouds.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country. It has amazing seaside and great jungles, beautiful tea estates and amazing natural diversity. The decades long civil war has come to an end and since tourism has incresed exponentially. This has of course been good for the economy, yet often times we saw that this has come at the expense of detoriating animal rights (wale watching, safaris and animal ”orphanages” etc.) and natural exploitation. Hopefully in the future tourism here would grow a little more sustainable.

These photos give little insight what we saw here during the first two weeks of January. There would be many things to write, but I need to take a nap now. Hope you enjoy the photos!
